From building the first unicorn in Spain to inspiring the next success stories around the world

Ridesharing has taken over the world, and competition has been fierce. Spanish unicorn Cabify has grown into a big player by doing things its own way. In 2011, Juan de Antonio founded Cabify with the idea of creating a healthy environment for drivers and passengers—something other companies in the space struggled with. He also wanted to help the actual environment, which is why he made Cabify a 100% carbon-neutral company by integrating a variety of transportation.

"We knew that whatever we provided had to be sustainable, including the pricing,” Juan explains. “Everyone involved has to win in the business structure—the drivers and the passengers. We could not rely on subsidies and unsustainable practices."

Today, Cabify is one of the best ways to get around in Spain and a full multi-mobility platform. It operates in more than 40 cities in seven Spanish-speaking countries in the Americas, from Mexico to Uruguay. In its first 10 years, the company grew to serve more than 1.2 million drivers, 1,000+ employees, and 42 million registered customers.

At the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, Cabify also created Envíos, a service that delivers small goods between individuals and companies across cities.

Juan’s Multiplier Effect

Juan aims to multiply his impact in more ways than market share.

At Cabify, female representation accounts for more than twice the technology sector’s average, with women representing 46% of the office teams in 2021. The company also actively listens to the needs of female passengers, who feared a lack of safety when it came to public transportation in Latin America.

Endeavor first got Juan’s attention in 2009 while he pursued his MBA at Stanford University. Once Endeavor opened its office in Spain, he joined our community as a founder.

Juan has invested in a number of startups and mentored nearly four dozen founders since joining. His former employees have also formed more than 80 new businesses all around the world.
